Quantum Dynamics of Glassy Systems

The problem of glassy systems remains unresolved even in classical systems because unlike other many-body system that can be simplified down to a collection of order parameters (Temperature, Pressure, Volume, etc.) every particle in the structure of a glassy system has importance, much like a many-body quantum system. Therefore, the understanding of glassy systems is expected to help bridge the transition between the classical description of the world (statistical mechanics and thermodynamics) with quantum mechanics. Further, the problem of many-body quantum systems is of great interest for those pursuing quantum computation. Understanding the dynamics of glassy systems will provide a groundwork to engineering and manipulating large numbers of entangled states, bringing us closer to the realization of a quantum computer.
