New effects observed with a turbulent Bose-Einstein condensate

Abstract:  During this presentation, general aspects of Quantum Turbulence in a BEC will be discussed.  Effects like Speckle of matter waves, Anderson Type localization among others are demonstrations we have done with a turbulent cloud.

About the speaker:  Prof. Bagnato, a member of the National Academies of Science of both Brazil and the United States, is the director of the São Carlos Institute of Physics, and one of the pioneers in the study of cold quantum gases.  As a graduate student at MIT in the 1980s he did the first theoretical studies of an atomic gas Bose condensate in a trap potential.  In São Carlos he has led research ranging from ultracold collisions to optical applications in biomedicine.  In the last several years he has pioneered the study of turbulence in superfluid Bose condensates.
