From Many-Body Localization to Topology - New Frontiers for Ultracold Quantum Gases
Many-body localization, that is the disorder-induced localization of interacting particles, signals a breakdown of conventional thermodynamics, as these systems do not thermalize and show non-ergodic time evolution. In my talk, I will report on our recent results on the observation of Many-Body Localization in ultracold Fermi gases in quasi-random lattices and how such localized phases are affected when coupled to the environment. In the second part of the talk, I will discuss novel interferometric measurements on Wilson-Lines in Bloch bands that enable the probing of the full quantum geometry of mulitple bands. Finally, I will present our latest results on the first achievement of a Thouless Quantum Pump, more than 30 years after its original proposal.
