Some Quantum Highlights from the Dodd-Walls Centre - New Zealand's new national Centre of Research Excellence

July 20, 2015 -
12:00pm to 1:00pm
David Hutchinson
Director, Dodd-Walls Centre for Photonic and Quantum Technologies, University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand

After a decade of effort, the quantum and atomic physics community in New Zealand has managed to secure substantial funding for a national Centre of Research Excellence. The Centre, hosted by the University of Otago, spans five universities also including the strong photonics groups at Auckland. The Centre builds on the legacy of quantum optics established by Dan Walls and Crispin Gardiner. In this talk I will introduce the Centre and illustrate some of the research already being undertaken and point towards our aspirations. I will concentrate on quantum physics highlights throughout.
